After his trip to dubai for a stay of ten days, I leave room for Mathieu’s story on the blog! Reader of the blog, he tells us about his stay in dubai, a city of excess. This story also breaks the clichés that often say that dubai comes down to high buildings, malls and the desert…
Many French tourists only discover dubai during a short stopover on a flight with Emirates. One or two days of travel to dubai are not necessarily enough to break the clichés and prejudices that we can have about dubai.
I discovered dubai a few years ago during a short stopover, without even spending a night there. Then I decided to go back for a trip in its own right, just to really visit dubai but also its surroundings. I tell you about my 10 days in dubai.
After a 6 to 7 hour flight, I arrive in dubai in the evening. Little jet lag and for this trip in the middle of December, what a pleasure to arrive in dubai and find a temperature of 20 to 25 degrees in the middle of winter.
I chose for the first part of my stay in dubai a hotel on the Sheikh Zayed Roada major road known to dubai because it brings together an incredible number of skyscrapers… It was the dubai-dubai1.fr.html?aid=1301890&no_rooms=1&group_adults=1&label=dubai-1″ data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>Carlton Downtown Hoteland also recommend it in passing (good value for money, and close to a metro station).
I decided to dedicate the first 4 days of my stay to dubai” data-wpel-link=”exclude” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>visit dubai. Immerse myself in the different neighborhoods in the end, all quite different! Between old dubai and The Palm Jumeirah, there is a world… I already had a lot of places to see in mind and these 4 days were very busy. Quite tiring because dubai is a very spread out city, over several tens of kilometres. These 4 days of visit allowed me among other things to discover:
- old dubai for the souks, the fort (dubai museum) but also the banks of the river which separates old dubai into 2 districts
- Burj Khalifa necessarily! The tallest tower in the world, and for which you can access the top.
- discover the 2 main malls of dubai, I had only seen the dubai Mall during my first visit
- go see this huge artificial island that is The Palm Jumeirah
- eat at the dubai Fish Market (in the north of the city)
- and many more places…
To those who think that dubai is all about buildings and shopping malls, go check it out 🙂 . And longer than for 10 hours of stopover… dubai is much more varied… Even if we cannot compare dubai to historical cities like Cairo or Damascus, the city has a real interest, you just have to go there to something other than cultural visits only!
For access to Burj Khalifathere are two options:
- access to the 124 and 125th floors: this is the most classic and least expensive solution (reservation dubai-l173/billet-pour-la-burj-khalifa-t49019/?partner_id=9D8SYIO&cmp=dubai-burj-1″ data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>on this page).
- access to the 148th floor: more expensive solution but allowing to have a VIP access, and an even more impressive view, at more than 550 meters high! (reservation on dubai-experience-ultime-a-la-burj-khalifa-t49181/?partner_id=9D8SYIO&cmp=dubai-burj-2″ data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>this page).
dubai and its dozens of activities!
One of the big assets of dubai: these are the activities that you can do! There are dozens of them and they are very varied:
To be honest, it’s not always cheap… I chose to limit myself to 3 activities in dubai because my budget was not unlimited. By booking online, I was able to save a lot of euros 🙂 .
So I went to the dubai Aquarium, to Ski dubai (in the Mall of the Emirates) and finally to the dubai/wild-wadi/” data-wpel-link=”exclude” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>Wild Wadi water park. I really liked all 3! It is fun ! It is sure that it is another tourism than what we are used to doing elsewhere. But in the end, this part of my stay in dubai was rather relaxing and very pleasant.
A day in Abu Dhabi
The advantage of the United Arab Emirates is that the big cities of dubai and Abu Dhabi are not far from each other. They are separated by barely 150 km!
I took advantage of my 10 days in dubai to also devote a day to visiting Abu Dhabi. And I didn’t bother to rent a car, I realized dubai-l173/journee-de-visite-touristique-d-abou-dabi-depuis-dubai-t60673/?partner_id=9D8SYIO&cmp=dubai-abudhabi” data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>a day trip to discover the essence of this city, with among others the Grand Mosque Sheikh Zayed, really magnificent!
A must do in dubai: the desert…
Going on a trip to dubai without going through the desert would be a big mistake, a huge mistake even!
I chose a simple 4×4 package + dinner in the dunes in the evening before returning to dubai. You can spend a night there but that didn’t tempt me too much. the dubai-l173/balade-en-montgolfiere-a-l-aube-depuis-dubai-t14907/?partner_id=9D8SYIO&cmp=dubai-montgolfiere” data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>hot air balloon flight would have interested me but alas, it was full during my 2 days of availability so I could not …
Honestly, if you’ve never been to a sandy desert, go. The excursion is not expensive at all and can be booked online. You spend a good afternoon and a good evening in the desert 😉 .
You can dubai-c60005/billets-pour-safari-premium-dans-le-desert-avec-bbq-fauconnerie-chameau-et-sandboarding-p974715/?partner=hashtagvoyage” data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>book this activity here. It takes about sixty euros per adult.
A day at sea in Oman!
Even before this stay in dubai, I had heard of the Omani landscapes and in particular of the fjords of Oman located in the north of the United Arab Emirates. The top there: a cruise in the fjords!
Be careful, there are all prices for the same service in the end… I booked online and the price was unbeatable!
This day was great even if there is a lot of road between dubai and the starting point of the boat! The landscapes are truly magnificent and swimming there is a delight.
This excursion from dubai kept me busy for a whole day.
You can dubai-l173/dubai-safari-en-mer-d-une-journee-a-musandam-t59835/?partner_id=9D8SYIO&cmp=dubai-mer-oman” data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>book this activity here. It costs around €90 per person, and sometimes has discounts depending on the booking period.
dubai is also enjoying the beach!
The end of the journey is approaching! I spent my last 2 days in a nice hotel, to enjoy the beach. Bathing and being in the sun in the middle of winter is a real treat. Not too much jet lag, blue sky, swimming in a turquoise sea, dubai is also a paradise for the beach…
There are public beaches in dubai (I haven’t been there) and private beaches which are only open to residents of the associated hotel. Having a beach in the hotel where I spent the end of my stay (the dubai-at-jumeirah-beach.fr.html?aid=1301890&no_rooms=1&group_adults=1&label=dubai-2″ data-wpel-link=”external” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>Four Seasons Resort dubai at Jumeirah Beach), I stayed on this beach.
These hotels are not necessarily cheap but it is a real haven of peace and it is ideal to decompress and do nothing for one or two days before returning to Paris!
Summary of my trip to dubai
To conclude this travel story in dubai, I would like to point out that I really enjoyed these 10 days in dubai. An astonishing city, in the end far from the clichés that we can have. So of course, dubai‘s main asset is not culture or history, but in the end there is the desert at the gates of the city, magnificent landscapes nearby (fjord) and old dubai which is really nice.
I thank Mathieu for his story and his photos which allow us to take us to this destination that I did not know. And which brings this fact to the passage of diversity to the blog!
