The Government asks Sánchez to give explanations about espionage during his visit to Barcelona on Friday

Aragonès will coincide with the President of the Government in the Circle of Economy

The spokeswoman for the Government, Patricia Plaja, has asked the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to give explanations about espionage against independentists, taking advantage of his visit to Barcelona this Friday to attend the Circle of Economy, where he will coincide with the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonese.

“It is not about pointing out if Friday is the best day or not, because these explanations should already have been given. Will Sánchez come to Catalonia and leave without explaining to the president of the Generalitat a political scandal at an international level?” , he asked at a press conference after the Consell Executiu.

Aragonès and Sánchez will coincide in the act in which the president of the Cercle d’Economia, Javier Faus, will present the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with the second edition of the European Construction Award

Despite considering it anecdotal that they coincide in this context, he has assured that, in case they speak, he will convey the urgency of a meeting between the two and that they can speak in time so that he can give “the necessary explanations”.

“But the context should not be this, a photo in the Círculo de Economía”, Plaja stressed, making it clear that this is not the setting for this meeting between the two presidents to take place.

When asked if there has been any contact with the Government, he assured that there is nothing new and that the question that must be answered is when Aragonès and Sánchez will meet: “It is no longer whether it will be done or not, because they will not be able to avoid this meeting “That’s when it will be done. And this can only be answered by Moncloa.”

After the PSOE, PP, Vox and Cs have voted against creating an investigative commission in Congress on espionage, Plaja has lamented that something that is “common sense” does not bear fruit.

“What problem is there in having an investigation commission to clarify all the questions? Who is afraid that something will come to light? In a full democracy, you cannot make a commission to investigate a case that is already a international scandal?” he asked.

For this reason, he has warned that the relations of trust between the Generalitat and the Government have been “very damaged” and that the latter has, in his opinion, a credibility problem.

After reiterating that responsibilities must also be assumed, he stressed that all the people who have been responsible for espionage action or omission must resign, although he did not want to specify names.

Although they do not question that Sánchez and the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, have been spied on, they have accused the Government of “doing nothing to clarify some very serious facts that are endangering basic pillars of the rule of law.”
