Today I decided to do a little marathon in Downtown Cancun to see what looked interesting according to my Maps.Me! I use the term marathon here, but it was more of a very slow walk with stops in downtown Cancun! 🙂 – That said, my hostel is located directly in the middle of Downtown, and all of the tips suggested below are all within 1 KM of my hostel! All that to say that you won’t need a Taxi if you want to visit everything one after the other!
Visit Mercado 28 in downtown Cancun!
That’s the least attractive thing to visit on the list! Honestly, everyone mentions it but it really is a market for tourists!
All the articles you’re going to find there just have Cancun written on them. – It’s harassment from one Kiosk to another and you see that the sellers know that this is the Market for tourists!
It can be good if you like to meet sellers in order to do a negotiation exercise. – But the truth is, it’s such an aggressive sell and approach that you’re going to want to shoot yourself. It really looks like a gathering of vendors from Yellow but with a Spanish language!
Seriously, the only thing I liked about my visit to Mercado 28 in downtown Cancun was the guy who offered me Cocaine after I answered Nope to his solicitation to have a beer in his bar! – It was pretty funny! 🙂
That said, here are some pictures of Mercado 28. Just looking at the poster with the name in English, you can clearly see that this is the Mercado sub-race for tourists! 🙁
Visit Mercado 23 in downtown Cancun!
To continue my visit to Downtown Cancun, I went in the direction of Mercado 23. – I must say that after my visit to Mercado 28, I had lost all my hopes in the Mexican race! However, I have found a local’s paradise with Mercado 23! This is a real real Mercado with locals, local food, Mexicans as consumers and above all, no sellers who harass you!
I first started by admiring the place! You will see that it is really super local! – Above all, admire the signs, they are in Spanish! 😀
Do you also see how it smells like the Mexican per square foot? – More beautiful feeling for life! 🙂
That being said, after the visual orgasm I had the pleasure of experiencing food at this local downtown Mercado,
I started by ordering! – As it was long I wanted to cut my appetite by taking a picture of the filthy myself! 🙂
Then I admired this man walking towards me.
Finally, I cummed in my pants when my food arrived! 6 dollars well invested! Less expensive than a prostitute to reach orgasm! – Except that it’s my mouth that got wet! 🙂
The thing in the glass, it’s kind of Leche! Seriously, this is amazingly good! Also, the club sandwich was like 4 bucks had lots of bacon and cheese! Seriously, it was insanely good! – Note here the plastic straw and not disgusting cardboard! Mexico still resists vegan hippies! – Good work! ♡
To return to the Mercado, saying local, you should know that it really is a Mercado! You can buy your meat on site, your vegetables and hooray! It’s like a Max more disgusting but with less questionable meat! – Add to that a section for toys and restaurants like Super Fries but better and without the same menu! 🙂
Visit Las Papalas Park in downtown Cancun!
Since I arrived in Cancun 3 days ago, I go there every night!
This park located right in the heart of downtown Cancun is literally where the Mexicans of Cancun congregate!
I’ll put the pictures below to give you an idea, but it’s a kind of park I’ve never seen!
You have in a corner full of kiosks with amazing food and local prices. In the middle you have little ones having fun driving electric cars that parents rent. Further you have small rides for children. You also have stalls with games like at fairs. In short, you have everything! And the best part is that it’s 90% local.
I would say if you are a family with kids this is the place to spend an evening in Cancun! – If you are traveling solo it is also good because you always have something going on. Like today there were rap singers during supper time quietly rapping between the tables. Tonight there was a band playing and dancers. The other evening a clown who was bad, but who was there the same! Otherwise, just for the food it’s worth a visit. Your taste buds will thank you!
Here are some photos!
It’s hard to demonstrate the atmosphere with photos, but it’s a place where the vibes is amazing in the evening! Sunday and Saturday seem to be the big nights!
Otherwise, one thing to know is that if you want artisanal but really handmade stuff. There is a small park nearby where vendors sell their handmade stuff! Here’s the place, it’s blue on my Print Screen great quality! 🙂
Review of my visit to downtown Cancun!
I’m not going to lie, Cancun is not a place you visit primarily for its parks and monuments! It is mostly for the beach, islands and activities in as well as on the water! – That said, the city center could be an option to visit if you want to take an afternoon away from the beaches, mainly for the Park and the Mercado 23. The Mercado 28 is present simply because for some reason the tourists seem to like it. But the real local experience is clearly an afternoon stroll past Mercado 23 and spending an evening at the Park.
Safety level, I didn’t really feel any danger. The Mexicans seem nice and ignore the tourists! – Except in the hell of the city center that is Mercado 28! 🙁
To finish the article on things to visit in downtown Cancun, here are some pictures randoms of my walk!
PS: I just want to end the article on this wonderful poster that I was able to admire towards the end of my visit to Downtown Cancun! 🙂
