UK weather forecast: Britain to be as hot as Barcelona but snow is on the way

The Met Office says there will be plenty of warm sunshine in the UK as an Indian summer brings unseasonable temperatures which are rivaling sun destinations such as Barcelona and Los Angeles

Temperatures surge to 21C with October warmth set to break UK records

Parts of Britain are set to be as warm as Barcelona and Los Angeles as people bask in an Indian summer bringing 21C heat.

Temperatures will remain fine in the south through the weekend, rivaling destinations that are usually sunnier and warmer at this time of year.

But western Scotland is under a yellow warning for rain, where as much as 6ins could fall over higher ground through Friday and into Saturday morning.

Brits should make the most of the unseasonably warm October weather – the long-term forecast calls for things to turn colder and snow to fall over higher ground in the UK as the month moves into November.

Heavy rain is sweeping into parts of Scotland while it is warm in the south

Temperatures are predicted to hit at least 20C in a number of places in England and Wales on Friday, with some towns or cities nearing 22C.

Barcelona and Los Angeles are both expected to hit highs of about 21C.

Brighter skies and warm weather are set to be maintained until at least Sunday as sub-tropical is drawn in from the South West.

But downpours are forecast for parts of Scotland and Wales.

The heaviest showers are expected in western Scotland, where a yellow warning is in effect.

On Friday, there could be some fog or low cloud in the morning, which will clear to allow for some warm sunshine for many, though it will stay cloudier in the South East, the met office said.
